Ingredients

Strawberry base
  • 200 g fresh strawberries washed, hulled, and chopped
  • 2 tsp pure maple syrup about 13 g
Tea and milk
  • 4 g plain matcha powder about 2 teaspoons, but weight is more reliable
  • 60 mL water heated to about 176°F/80°C
  • 480 mL cold 2% milk about 2 cups
  • 300 g ice cubes about 150 g per glass; adjust to glass capacity

Equipment

  • 2 Tall glasses, about 600 mL or 20 fl oz each
  • 1 Small sieve
  • 1 Matcha whisk or suitable handheld frother
  • 1 Fork or small blender

Instructions

  1. Wash strawberries under running water, remove hulls, and chop. Mash with the measured maple syrup in a bowl until juicy with small pieces, or blend briefly if a smoother fruit layer is preferred.
  2. Sift the 4 g matcha into a separate bowl. Add 60 mL water at about 176°F/80°C and whisk until smooth, using a matcha whisk or suitable frother. Work out visible clumps before assembling the drinks.
  3. Divide fruit mixture between two tall glasses. Add ice, leaving space for stirring, then divide the cold milk between them. Pour the matcha mixture slowly over the milk, using the back of a spoon if wanted for a clearer top layer.
  4. Serve immediately. Stir each glass thoroughly before drinking so the concentrated tea and fruit mix through the milk. Keep ingredients refrigerated until assembly and do not leave finished milk drinks sitting at room temperature.

Notes

Nutrition estimate per half batch includes 240 mL 2% milk, 100 g strawberries, 6.5 g maple syrup, and 2 g matcha with all fruit retained. Ice and water add no calories; different milks and additional sweetener change the result. Contains milk. Matcha contains caffeine; no exact caffeine dose is assigned without the product’s own data. Cost allowance: US$0.50 milk, US$1.20 berries, US$1.80 matcha, and US$0.30 maple syrup portions for the batch; local prices vary.
Use plain matcha rather than a sweetened latte mix. Wash berries before hulling, keep the milk and fruit cold, and assemble close to serving. If substituting frozen berries, follow the package preparation instructions, including any requirement to cook, then cool completely.
